Once you consider remodeling your home, kitchen or bath you should always do your homework first: • Get at least 2 or 3 estimates from a LICENSED GENERAL CONTRACTOR! • Check with the Registrar of Contractors (Link) to make sure the contractor is licensed, bonded and insured. Also check to see if he has unresolved complaints. • Check with the Better Business Bureau (Link) for complaints or compliments filed on the company. • Make certain that when you compare your estimates you are comparing “Apples” to “Apples”. If you are unsure as to what is included in a quote be sure to ask for details. • Ask for a few references or to see some of the completed jobs. Now that you have decided on a General Contractor you will probably find that you may also need a permit to begin your project. Obtaining the permit may require plans from an Architect so be sure to allow enough time for all of this to take place prior to the construction period. (Plan two to three months for this phase of the project). Once the permit has been obtained and the plans are executed the General Contractor can give you an “ estimated ” time for completion of the project. I say, “ estimated ” because when you are remodeling at times there may be unknown issues hiding in the walls or under the flooring, which can result in delays. All in all remodeling your home is not unlike having a baby… it is better to forget the birthing and enjoy the end result!! We look forward to earning your business!
